Trip to Turkey in Summer of 2005

Created August 2006

After my not-so-successful trip to Europe in June, my mother invited me to go to another European trip. She suggested we went to a country neither of us had traveled to and the entry visa was not too difficult to get. After searching for the map of Europe, I found Turkey to be the most optimal choice.

Okay, you might say Turkey is not really Europe. I would say for us from far east, we do consider it more European than Asian. Since I would travel with Mom for this trip, backpacking or independent travel was not really an easy way to go. Among the tour operators in Taiwan, we eventually chose the Golden Formosa Travel (金展旅行社) as our tour operator. This tour operator charged about $300 more than other company but did offer better itinerary and more time in Istanbul. Maybe because it was more expensive, there were only 13 people in our group. We ended up having a lot of spaces on a 40-people tour bus the whole trip.

It was fun. However, for a country as enormous and varied as Turkey, 13 days were not really enough to see what we wanted. Maybe I should still do backpacking or trvael with Intrepid next time...
