Santa Fe, the Sophisticated Small Town

Created June 21, 2001

Santa Fe ("Saint Faith" in Spanish) is the second oldest city built by Eoropeans in the US (But what is the oldest?). It is currently the state capital of New Mexico. Though much smaller than New Mexico's largest city, Albuquerque, it is a much more popular tourist destination. With beautiful adobe style houses everywhere, elegant street and alleys, highest concentration of art galleries and museums in the country. I think I really want to retire here!
A typical adobe style building in Santa Fe
  • This is a typical adobe-styled building in Santa Fe. With very, very thick walls, this type of building is siad to be cool in summers and warm in winters. Guess what this building in the picture is for? It is a parking garage! In Santa Fe, even the garage has to built like an adobe.
Anoth adobe styled building in Santa Fe
  • Another adobe styled building in Sana Fe. But I forgot what it is for, maybe a office bulding....
Lensic Theater-
  • Lensic Theater, which is featured in New York Times travel section and several other national magazines, was just finished its renovation in May. It is small, but the performance line-up is impressive. Just like the city of Santa Fe.
An monument at the Town Square of Santa Fe-
  • Just like many Spanish colonial cities (Santa Fe was established by Spaniards) in America, there is a nice twon square in Santa Fe too. It reminds me of the Plaza d'Amar in Cuzco, Peru. though it is not as grand as Cuzco's...
View of santa Fe from nearby hills
  • A paranomic view of Santa Fe and nearby mountains. You can see it's really a small town.
  • Courtyard of Santa Fe's Museum of Fine Art. Like many things in Santa Fe, this museum is small but sophisticated. There was a exhibition going on about the demised Route 66.

More to come......
