Petrified Forest National Park

Created June 23, 2001

This is the least famous national park we visited in this trip. In fact, we didn't even know the existence of this park until the day before! It is on the way between Flagstaff and Albuquerque on I-40. We figured that we would pass it by, then why not visiting another parks? It is not very scenic but I think it is very educational. What is "petrified wood/forest"? Go to see it yourself.
A big petrified log
  • This is not a regular big log. It is a petrified log. Its wooden issue was all replaced by silicon and quartz. But from outside, it still looks like a tree.
A petrified log buried underground
  • A petrified log half-buried underground. This is possibly the largest petrified log in this area.
Lizard
  • A colorful lizard sneaking on a petrified tree...
A deer
  • We saw a deer in the Park too, even it is so dry and unhabitable...
Painted Desert
  • This section of the Park is not really related to "petrified wood" but instead famous for its multi-layed multi-colored sandstone formation. No wonder it is called "painted" desert...
Painted Desert
  • More of the Painted Desert.
