All the Beautiful Arches: Arches National Park
Created June 22, 2001

Since my classmate Monts visited Utah and showed her pictures in a
slide show in our dorm back at Harvard, I've always wanted to visit
that national park with a lot of beautiful arches. Who knew that it
took me almost 8 years to realize that dream! While it's more than
extra 100 miles to drive from Four Corner (where Utah, Colorado, New
Mexico, and Arizona meet) to Moab (just outside of Arches NP) and took
almost two full days out of our itenerary, it is well worth the trip! I
spent extra two hours to walk to the most famous of them all - Delicate
Arch, under the stinging sun and almost dehydrated. But again, I have
to say, it is worth the trip! |

-
This is my first glance of the Delicate Arch, after the more than an
hour's hike (okay, okay, I was slow. It should take only about 45
inutes each way). It's like a deja vu since I have seen it so many
times from pictures (and car plates of Utah).
|
| |
- This is the Delicate Arch from different angle. It doesn't seem so
magnificent now, but still, delicate.....Can you feel how blue the sky
is?
|
| |
- This picture was taken from under the Delicate Arch. There were so
many tourists. I was worried some of us might fall off the cliff (It is
a cliff next to the Arch).
|
| |
- This is the trail leading to the Arch. It doesn't look too strenuous, isn't it?
|
| |
- There are many arches in this National Park (besides the Delicate one). Turret Arch is one of them....
|
| |
- ...and from the Turret Arch, you can have a good peek of the North and South Windows, the largest twin arches in the Park.
|
| |
- There are also some interesting non-arch stone formations in the Park. Such as "The Three Gossips" here...
|
| |
- Devil's Garden is the furthest part inside the Park. After a long
hot day's drive and hike, I couldn't even finish the trek in this part
of the Park. I am still regretting it...
