Calca Canyon

Calca Canyon, located not far away from Arequipa (the second largest city of Peru), is said to be deeper than the Grand canyon in the United States. It is also famous for its Andean condors circling around the valley. I woke up 2:30 am in the morning and rode along a treacherous mountain road for 5 hours to get there. The view is magnificent, but I got altitude sickness after the visit. The highest point we visited is more than 5,000 m!

  • In my background is the Calca Canyon from the Cruz (Cross) de Condor Point. It feels deeper than in this picture!
A condor flying over tha Canyon
  • This place is called "Cruz de Condor" because it is the best point for bird watching. We did see several condors flying above the Canyon!
