Scenic Lake Atitlan - Lago de Atitlan |
Surrounded by volcanoes, steep hillsides and some villages still living traditional Mayan lives, Lake Atitlan is one of the most beautiful and fascinating lakes in the world. (Yes, I think it is more beautful than any lake in the U.S.) It is also becoming more and more touristy. The main town, Panajachel, now is nicknamed "Gringocastenango" ("where the white people gather" in Mayan languages). It is nice that I stayed there for three nights. Since it is only three hours' drive from Guatemala City Airport (and Guatemala City is only 4 hours flight from New York.), it is very convinient for me to visit again.

A view from the dock. |

This sort of reminds me of Santorini, Greece. |

This is a picture I took when we took a lake shore hiking trail. We had a nice view of the village we were staying - Santa Catarina Palopo. |
